Dan's Rant: Yet Another Proposed MoCo Govt Department!
This is debut of Dan’s rant! My MoCoYR colleagues have told me to start a blog rant b/c I tend to rant a lot!! Lol, btw these are my views and opinions on these issues and may not be the opinions of my fellow MoCo YRs, (Full Disclaimer).
Issues are of my choosing and will cover policy and proposals going on in Montgomery County and Maryland this week. Here. We. Go.
“Riemer Introduces Bill To Create County Office of Child Care”
“This week Montgomery County Councilmember Hans Riemer today introduced a bill to create a new county office.... responsible for creating strategies to implement a comprehensive child care program that would include a plan for universal pre-kindergarten and child care and developing public-private partnerships among businesses, Montgomery County Public Schools and county government, according to a county news release.”
Dan’s Rant: This, to me and a lot of folks, is creating a new government bureaucratic agency, an agency in Montgomery County to basically to tell parents how to raise their kids. Any new agency will def guarantee cushy jobs for likely friends of Hans. Keep in mind, the guy already takes money from all manner of special interests and voted last year to raise his own pay 17%. Showering friends with county largesse would be par for the course.
Why do we need to "develop a plan" for universal Pre-K? That policy isn't in the cards right now -- we're facing a huge state-wide budget crunch! Does Riemer read the papers? Review budgets? In addition the county is currently crying poor right now on school funding!! And on the $2 billion purple line! Aren't they going to be 25 million dollars short this year for the school systeml? If that’s the case, how can they justify the setting up of yet another county department without focusing on our school-age children right now???
