Dan's Rant: MoCo & MD Dems Brace for $200 Million Tax Hit from Supreme Court Case
Comptroller of the Treasury of Maryland v. Wynne sounds like a boring Supreme Court case that you maybe learned about in high school. But for MoCo's big-spending Democratic politicians, it could mean the end of access to income that they've traditionally seized for pet projects and special interest funding. Maryland has always barred income tax credits (from income taxes already paid to other states, where an individual's money might've been made) from being applied to the "piggyback" segment of its state income tax. But this is being challenged in court and the resulting decision looks like it will mean counties and the state will need to fork over some $200 million back to taxpayers (where it rightfully belongs). What locality in MD has one of the highest "piggyback" tax segments in the state? MoCo of course (3.2%)! Home of the $150 million "Silver Spring Transit Center" that still hasn't opened and countless other waste-laden projects ($2 million spent on temporary housing for a handful of folks in Bethesda, for example), regressive MoCo has always been a "gold standard" for the insane, unaccountable spending of hardworking people's money.
Dan’s Rant: Well well well!! The out of control tax-and-spend Democratic machine of Maryland, not only has been ripping the tax payers off for years, but in addition it may be violating federal law!! Howard County, MD lost in the highest court in Maryland already with (it appears) more losing for the state comptroller to come down from the Supreme Court soon! Give County Exec Leggett a tiny bit of credit - he built this expected loss into his next budget. He knew he couldn't pilfer the people's money like he once did so recklessly. But once again, this case proves that the nickel-and-dime attitude of some of our state politicians and local MoCo leaders towards taxpayers knows no bounds. Kudos to the couple standing up to them.
